What the site does

  • Keyboard

Every page starts with a “Skip to main content” link, and the long footer has its own skip link. Menus, the site search and the question lists open and close with the keyboard, and Escape closes the menu and the search. Ctrl K (⌘K on a Mac) opens the search from any page.

  • Visible focus

One focus outline is used across links, buttons and form fields, so you can always see where you are on the page.

  • Reduced motion

If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off its animations and transitions, including the heading animations, and the rotating hints in the search box stay still.

  • Text and colour

Body text, secondary text and placeholder text colours have been measured against the WCAG 2 AA contrast ratio for normal text (4.5:1).

  • Images

Photos that carry information have text alternatives. Decorative images and icons are generally hidden from screen readers so they don’t read out as noise.

  • Structure

Pages use headings, landmarks (header, navigation, main content and footer) and real lists. Question-and-answer lists are built on standard disclosure controls, so they work without JavaScript. The page language is set to British English.

  • Links that open elsewhere

Links to WhatsApp, review sites and maps open in a new tab. In the menus, the footer and the help pages they also say so to screen readers.

What this statement is not

It is a description of how the site is built, not a certificate. We don’t claim formal conformance with any accessibility standard. Some parts of the site come from other services, such as the Google map on our contact page and WhatsApp, and work the way those services build them.
