Asked most about money
Do you take a deposit?
Yes. A 20% deposit, paid by bank transfer, secures your date once you accept the written quote. The balance is due before unloading, unless something else is agreed in writing.
Deposit, payment and overtimePrice
How is a house move priced?
By vehicle size and crew size at an hourly rate, plus a per-mile distance charge. There is a two-hour minimum on the Small Transit (SWB) and Transit LWB, and a three-hour minimum on the Luton Box Van, 5.5 Tonne Lorry, 7.5 Tonne Lorry, 10 Tonne Lorry, 12 Tonne Lorry and 18 Tonne Lorry. Packing is available as a package priced by property size. Packing materials and furniture dismantling are charged separately at published rates, and so are stairs: the ground floor is free, every floor from the first up is charged at £10 per person on the crew, per flight, per hour at that address, and a working lift that takes the furniture removes the charge. The hourly rate stays the same whether or not you need them. You receive an itemised written quote within 24 hours, and the price is the total — no VAT is added.
Do you charge for stairs?
Yes, from the first floor up: £10 per person on the crew, per flight of stairs, for each hour at that address — a floor is 2 flights, so a first floor is 2 flights and a third floor 6. The hours are the loading time at the collection and the unloading time at the delivery, so a third-floor flat to a second-floor flat carries both. Only the ground floor is free, and a working lift means no stair charge at all — worth confirming the lift is in service on the day.
How much does dismantling cost?
Per item, from £50 to dismantle a single or double bed, or £90 with reassembly, subject to a £90 minimum booking. The full published list covers beds, wardrobes and tables through to larger multi-door wardrobes, so you can see the cost before the crew arrives.
How is packing priced?
As a package by property size, from one to seven bedrooms, with labour and materials in one published price. Removal and transport are quoted separately from the hourly rate card.
What is the minimum booking?
Two hours on the Small Transit (SWB) and Transit LWB. Three hours on the Luton Box Van, 5.5 Tonne Lorry, 7.5 Tonne Lorry, 10 Tonne Lorry, 12 Tonne Lorry and 18 Tonne Lorry.
Booking
How far in advance should I book?
As soon as you have a likely date, even if completion is not confirmed. Fridays and month-ends go first, so an early conversation gives you more choice. If you are working to a short deadline, call anyway: homes up to two bedrooms can often be moved the same day if you book by 2pm, and larger homes usually the next day, subject to availability. There is no extra charge for short notice. Phone lines are open seven days a week, 8:00am – 10:30pm.
Can you handle a long-distance move?
Yes, anywhere in the UK, and we also run household moves between the UK and 12 European destinations. A long move is priced from exactly the same rate card as a local one — the hourly rate set by vehicle and crew, plus the per-mile charge — so distance adds miles rather than a different kind of pricing. What changes is the planning: departure time, the route, and when the load can realistically be unloaded at the far end.
On the day
What is included in a house move?
Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover, our own employed crew, and a named move coordinator who handles your job from the quote to the last box. The crew protects floors and doorways before anything moves, blanket-wraps furniture, and unloads boxes into the rooms you have labelled them for. Packing, packing materials, furniture dismantling and specialist handling have their own published prices, so you only pay for what you need.
What should I do before the movers arrive?
Finish packing anything you are packing yourself and label the boxes by destination room. Keep keys, documents, medication and valuables with you rather than loading them onto the van. Put anything that is not moving in one clearly marked place, and empty and defrost the freezer if it is coming with you. On the morning, walk the crew round and point out anything fragile, anything staying, and where the van can legally stop.
Do I need to pack everything myself?
No. You can pack everything yourself, have us pack the whole property, or have us pack only the fragile items. Whichever you choose, we bring the boxes, tape and wrap with us and itemise them in your quote. If you are packing yourself, the single most useful thing you can do is label each box with the room it is going to at the new address rather than the room it came from — that is what makes room-by-room unloading work at the other end.
Can you dismantle and rebuild furniture?
Yes. Dismantling and reassembly is charged per item at a published rate rather than folded into the hourly rate, from £50 to dismantle a single or double bed, or £90 with reassembly at the other end — subject to a £90 minimum booking. Beds and larger wardrobes frequently have to come apart before they will leave a room at all, so it is worth flagging them when you enquire — that way the crew arrives with the right tools and the time is already built into the estimate.
Insurance
Is insurance included?
Yes. Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover are included as standard on every move — they are not an optional extra and there is nothing to add on. Cover applies to the goods we are carrying while they are in our care.
Are pianos and fragile items covered by insurance?
Yes. Goods in Transit cover applies to them in the same way it applies to the rest of the load.
Is my consignment insured for the whole journey?
Goods in Transit cover applies to a European move in the same way it applies to a move across town — it is not reduced or excluded for the international leg.
Storage
How much does storage cost?
Storage for a 1-bedroom flat's contents is £250 to £350 a month, VAT included, with the first month paid upfront. Larger homes are priced on volume. The moves in and out are priced by the hour, plus mileage, from the rate card.
Where is the storage?
Near your old or new address, whichever suits the plan. We arrange it as part of the job, so you deal with one company from the first move to the last.
Can you store things for just a night or a few days?
Yes. A short stay is priced in your quote with the two moves either side of it.
Are the moves in and out covered?
Yes. Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover are included on the moves into and out of storage, the same as on any other job.
Changing or cancelling a booking
What happens if my moving date changes or completion is delayed?
Tell your coordinator as soon as you know. Delayed completions are common and the crew is booked for the day rather than an exact hour, so a key release that slips by a few hours is usually absorbed without the move falling apart. If the date itself moves, availability and any effect on the booking need to be confirmed by the team — call us as early as you can, because the sooner we know, the more options there are.
