Moving in Kensington usually comes down to access: where the van can legally stop, how many flights of stairs there are, and whether the lift takes furniture. Tell us those when you ask for a quote and they are priced in writing — not discovered on the day.

Whatever you are moving in Kensington, the price is built the same way: an hourly rate for the vehicle and crew, mileage between your two addresses, and published prices for stairs, packing and dismantling.

Council rules

What the council says about moving day in Kensington

Published by the authorities themselves, with a link to each. Rules and fees change, so check the source before you rely on them.

Reserving space outside the property: Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
The Royal Borough asks for 10 working days' notice to suspend a permit parking bay and two working days for a pay-by-phone bay. Permit-bay applications made five days or fewer before the start date may be considered at the council's discretion, with short-notice charges on top. Applications must arrive before 3pm on a working day, and payment in full is needed before the suspension is approved and signs go up.
RBKC: notice periods and requirements for parking suspensions
ULEZ covers every London borough
The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all London boroughs since 29 August 2023. A van that does not meet the ULEZ emissions standard is charged for each day it is driven inside the zone, so ask whichever company you book which vehicle will be used and check it with TfL's vehicle checker.

Moving in Kensington: common questions

Do you cover all of Kensington?

Yes. We cover all of Kensington and the rest of Greater London, and we move people to and from anywhere in the UK. A long-distance move is priced from the same rate card as a local one — it just has more miles on it.

How much does a move in Kensington cost?

The same as everywhere we work — our rates do not change by postcode. For example, 2-bedroom home: £300 (Luton Box Van, 2 movers, about 3 hours loading and unloading). Loading and unloading labour only, worked out the same way as our quote form. Driving time, mileage between your two addresses, stairs (£10 per person, per flight, per hour at that address), packing and dismantling are added in your written quote. Your itemised written quote arrives within 24 hours.

How far is Kensington from your nearest office?

About 6 miles from our London office. The time in your quote runs from the crew's arrival at your address, and the mileage is worked out from the road distance between your two addresses.

Do I need to arrange parking for moving day in Kensington?

Often, yes. The council rules we have found for Kensington are listed on this page with links to the official pages, including how much notice a parking suspension needs. Tell us what you have arranged when you book, and we plan the vehicle around it.

What is included in a house move?

Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover, our own employed crew, and a named move coordinator who handles your job from the quote to the last box. The crew protects floors and doorways before anything moves, blanket-wraps furniture, and unloads boxes into the rooms you have labelled them for. Packing, packing materials, furniture dismantling and specialist handling have their own published prices, so you only pay for what you need.

How far in advance should I book?

As soon as you have a likely date, even if completion is not confirmed. Fridays and month-ends go first, so an early conversation gives you more choice. If you are working to a short deadline, call anyway — we can often put a crew together within days. Phone lines are open seven days a week, 8:00am to 10:30pm.

Do I need to pack everything myself?

No. You can pack everything yourself, have us pack the whole property, or have us pack only the fragile items. Whichever you choose, we bring the boxes, tape and wrap with us and itemise them in your quote. If you are packing yourself, the single most useful thing you can do is label each box with the room it is going to at the new address rather than the room it came from — that is what makes room-by-room unloading work at the other end.
